Kelley Foods of Alabama, Inc.
ECM is pleased to spotlight the safety efforts of Alabama Self-Insured Worker’s Compensation Fund member Kelley Foods of Alabama, Inc.
Kelley Foods of Alabama, originally known as Elba Packing Company, was founded in 1957 by Lester Kelley and his two oldest sons, Hollis and Everette, and Mr. Max Glisson. In the early years, the company focused on meat packing (pork and beef), and custom meat processing. Since that time, Kelley Foods has developed into a regional Sausage Manufacturer and Food Distributor with approximately 170 employees. With a trade radius of approximately 200 miles, Kelley Foods services customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi.
A member of the Fund since 2000, Kelley Foods is strongly committed to providing a safe work environment and stressing safety to their drivers and plant employees. In an effort to promote safety, reduce losses, and improve morale, Kelley Foods recently chose to compete in the 2009 Food Industry Truck Driving Championship. This event is sponsored by the International Foodservice Distributors Association and provides the drivers an opportunity to demonstrate their driving skills and knowledge. The winner of the Kelley Foods event compete at the IFDA annual Food Industry Truck Driving Championship held in Orlando in September. At the national event winners receive cash awards, along with trophies and medals, and the companies they represent also receive recognition for their strong support of safety.
